Zuccardi Apelacion Tupungato Chardonnay 2018 at first taste is the Chardonnay you only dream about. Ripe stone fruit and fresh pineapple jump out. Fruit purity here is phenomenal. No malolactic ferment here, it's just quality fruit, concrete ferment, wild yeast and used oak barrels.
Vineyards reach heights of 1360m above sea level here, which is crazy high. For every 100m you climb, the temperature drops half a degree. The other interesting thing is that the vines were planted in 2016. Meaning the 2018 is quite young but also means as the vines mature this wine is just going to get better and better, which is hard to fathom as it's so tasty now!
Let's start at the beginning. Tupungato grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and then pressed. The fresh must is then transferred to concrete vats for fermentation. Wild yeasts are promoted which helps add complexity, uniqueness and texture. Once finished the wine matures in old oak whilst ageing on its lees. We legit just can't believe this wine is under £20. The story, process and fruit quality here is just next level. Get this vintage in your cellar quick as there isn't much of it floating about. Be sure to check out the Concreto Malbec if you are a red fan as that is mind blowing.
