As the name suggests, this is a whopping Big Barolo. Luckily it's got some bottle age that helps take this wine into the stratosphere. There is real genuine respect for the ecosystem and sustainability here and it's no surprise that the quality of fruit shines through. This wine comes off of a small 6-hectare vineyard with southern exposure that is planted only to Nebbiolo.
The 2009 saw high points from Jancis Robinson and Antonio Galloni. With 12 years in bottle, expect this wine's aroma to jump out of the glass. The palate is bone dry but complex with spice, dried red berries, potpourri and a hint of smokey meat.
Monforte's microclimate is characterised by the high altitude of its hills. Each vineyard has its own configuration and a well-defined character, but the course of these slopes creates channels that convey the air and help the vine grows in a healthy and vigorous manner.
