Your ideal Christmas wines

At Plonk, we’re year-round wine obsessives but the festive season always gives us an extra jolt of wine adrenaline. So many occasions to pick bottles for, pairings to ponder and personal preferences to satisfy. It’s easy to reach for familiar favourites. However, 'tis the season to branch out and indulge! But what to go for? Fear not, we've scoured the earth (okay, just our warehouse) to bring you the best Christmas wines to liven up your festivities.

First on our list is the Domaine Bonnet-Huteau "Nuit Boréale" NV, a sparkling wine that'll make you forget all about that overpriced Champagne. It's made with the same fancy méthode traditionnelle, but spends less time on the lees so it's easier on your wallet and your palate. Pop a bottle and get the party started!

Up next is the Res Fortes Blanc 2017, a white wine for everyone. It's got the acidity and freshness for the "dry white" crowd, a subtle oakiness for those who like a fuller flavour, and it goes with pretty much any food you're serving. It's the ultimate holiday wingman.

Red wine lovers, meet the Domaine Duseigneur "La Goutte du Seigneur" Red 2021. This spicy Grenache and Syrah from the Rhône Valley packs a punch, but the gentle tannins won't weigh you down as you make your way through the Christmas wine marathon.

And no holiday wine selection is complete without a Bordeaux, so we've included the Domaine Jean-Yves Millaire Bordeaux "Château Cavale" 2020. This full-bodied Merlot is aged in old oak and made with biodynamic grapes for an intense fruit and spice flavor that'll warm you up on a cold winter night.

Finally, for the adventurous drinkers out there, try the Mas Lasta VDF La Haut 2021. It's a small-production Syrah that's both intense and approachable, perfect for those who like to live on the wild side.

With these wines in your arsenal, your holiday parties will be the talk of the town. Cheers!
