One of the cool things about being a wine geek is being able to share the fun facts we found out about the wines we buy for Plonk. It's really what drives us.
We all know Villa Maria is a big name in the New Zealand wine world, but this single-vineyard Sauvignon is literally the last of its kind. The vineyard has been ripped up and after this vintage, there is no more available. What's more, is that there wasn't a lot made.
Finally, when thinking about a single vineyard that has a bit of quality and complexity about it, the extended bottle age really helps soften the acidity and allows for a little fruit development. Again, adding to the uniqueness of this wine. A really rare gem.
