Esk Valley Hawkes Bay Pinot Gris 2019 is here! 2019 was a totally stellar vintage in Hawkes Bay, the best winemaker Gordon Russell has ever seen. This is despite yields being down 25% generally. The fruit quality for Esk Valley though was through the roof.
The vines are on gravel-based soils and are cane pruned. This helps provide ripe fruit from low yielding vines. Harvested in the morning while the temperatures are cool and then processed quickly. This is so the juice avoids too much colour and tannin. Settled overnight with some juice in stainless tanks and some juice in old oak vats. When the wine has finished ferment, it spends some time on its lees for added texture and flavour.
Dry in style with aromatic Nashi pear, peach and honey. Rich and weighty palate with a delicately scented length. The wine is easy to love and even easy to drink! It's drinking now, so no need to cellar and enjoy with white fish, paella or fresh salads.
