Founded in 1870, Vina Errazuriz is steeped in history. Hailing from Chile’s Casablanca Valley, the vineyards used have been perfectly selected. They see all the positives of Chile’s wine-growing climate, including sea breezes and altitude that help slow the ripening process down.
This sticky or dessert wine comes off of estate vineyards called La Escultura. The specifically selected Sauvignon Blanc vines help produce a delicate ripened grape that can hit a higher sugar level. The grapes, as stated on the label, are picked quite late in the season to help hit the sugar level needed for this style. The juice is fermented slowly with a portion fermented in old oak to give it some micro-oxygenation that adds mouthfeel.
It’s full of aroma as soon as you pull the cork. Ripe pineapple, orange blossom and a touch of zest jump out of the glass. Lovely balance across the palate that sees the same fruit profile of ripe tropical fruits, honey and a lick of toast. Luscious and sweet, it’s also quite delicate with a very long scented length. Super enjoyable and easy to drink!
The 2019 Errazuriz Late Harvest vintage was dry and warm overall. There was some rain at the end of winter into spring, after that there was little rainfall. This wasn’t a bad thing though as it aided disease resistance. The season developed earlier than normal, but the vintage overall was a good one.
