One of our absolute favourite wines from a recent tasting. 45 year old vines provide excellent concentration of flavour in each grape. Whole bunches of Syrah undergo semi-carbonic maceration in the pressed juice of destemmed Grenache and Cinsault - lots of wine jargon there but essentially it means we get an incredible layered effect, with so much subsequently going on with each sip, but a wine that is perfectly balanced at the same time. Pairing this with food would provide an endless list, but we reckon once opened this will be gone before any food hits the table anyway.
Bernard Duseigneur comes from a family of winemakers, situated on the west side of the Rhône Valley. It was only after a stint in the City (London's City that is) that he decided he needed to return to his Mediterranean roots, taking over the family domain in 2002. Don't blame him really, I'd take a vineyard over urban slog if I had the choice. Bernard continues the diligent work of his father Jean and his brother Frédéric, crafting wines of great power and simultaneous elegance.
