Chateau de la Grave Grains Pins Blanc 2019 could be one of the most unique wines on the Plonk site. What makes this unique? Well, a few things! The blend of 60% Semillon and 40% Colombard is one part. The other is the 8 months it spends in oak. During this 8 month period, it goes through fermentation first, then aged on lees. These two processes add so much texture and mouthfeel as well as a lot of complexity and length.
The Pins Blanc has a huge aromatic profile, ripe and fragrant tropical fruit and floral tones. Then some honey, toast and bread dough creep in. Medium-full, balanced with a crisp palate. There is so much to this wine, super layered and rich. It's the kind of wine that develops from glass to glass.
Generally, Bordeaux is known for red or sweet wines. White wine has always flown under the radar. The estate itself has a huge history. Established in the 16th century, located on the right bank of the Dordogne and Garonne in the town of Bourg. 17% of the estate's vineyards are dedicated to white grapes, showing again how unique this style is.
The climate is maritime with a lot of oceanic influences. Soil is hugely important here, made up of gravel, limestone and clay. So there we are. Geek out and enjoy!
