Cantina di Gambellara Monopolio Merlot was one of the standouts for us when we were looking for wines around £10. Everything about this wine over-delivers, its fruit purity and quality. The subtle and complex aroma, the fragrant and textured palate and the soft oak profile. It's got smooth tannin and a scented length and is just a great all-rounder.
It's 100% Merlot from Veneto, slight unusually, but this shouldn't deter you at all. In fact, it's a reason to get this wine. The process is simple, optimum ripe Merlot grapes, fermented in stainless steel, with a portion of the finished juice going into old oak for maturation. The rest into stainless steel. After a few months of bottle ageing then it's released.
Ruby red hue, soft berries and plums, smooth tannin and a scented finish. Bone dry and layered, it's a smashing BBQ wine!
