Down to Earth Sauvignon Blanc 2019 comes from a small parcel of fruit from the Crayères vineyard. Unlike its big brother, this is a fresher, fruitier style. Still, handpicked and handcrafted with part of the fruit selection being whole bunch pressed and also fermented in old oak. The rest of the fruit is de-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel. Down to Earth Sauvignon Blanc shows ripe tropical fruit flavours, crisp texture and a scented length.
2019 was a moderately warm and dry vintage. Close to 2016 in terms of average rainfall. Good rainfall in December brought relief but did interfere with flowering and fruit set, therefore, reducing yields. Temperatures post-véraison in February and March were on average for the region. The 12-year-old vines from the Crayères Vineyard are coming into their own. Showing their potential to produce world-class wines of a delicate texture, balanced acidity and complex length.
